In the Val di Noto, in the territory of Modica (Rg) - Sicily, a city World Heritage Site, inserted in the Iblea countryside in a strategic position to experience the Unesco heritage of the Val di Noto, 4 km from the city, Baglio dell´Ulivo is the result of a careful renovation of an Ancient Baglio, articulated rural structure, typical of the area. The building of some historical value, which, also preserves an ancient private chapel, has been recovered with a careful conservative restoration and techniques inspired by the principles of bio-architecture, to preserve its original flavor. Chestnut beams, some of them salvaged, incannucciato roofs, (re-proposition in a modern key of the ancient technique used to make false ceilings and roofing ceilings with sound-absorbing, insulating characteristics, as well as structurally strong and flexible at the same time), lime plasters colored with natural earths and pigments with typical Mediterranean colors, and also walls n exposed local limestone, pavings in cast-in-place coccio pesto and in the so-called “pitch stone,“ whose specific definition is that of golden stone typical of the Hyblean Baroque, i.e., a black-brown limestone taken from parts of the rock crossed by asphaltic layers, while outside the patio a large-sized local limestone paving was recovered.
