Villa Volterra
Grand noble palace for sale in Volterra, Pisa. Volterra was one of the main city-states of ancient Tuscany (Etruria), it was the site in the Middle Ages of an important episcopal lordship having jurisdiction over a large part of the Tuscan hills. The city is very well connected to other cities of great importance. The noble palace, located in one of the main streets of the city, dates back to the 1700s, built on medieval remains. The property was probably architecturally unified around 1800. The building is on four levels: on the basement there are two technical rooms, going up to the ground floor we find a large entrance, two living rooms, the kitchen, two rooms used as storage rooms / cellars; from this floor via a staircase there are a mezzanine floor with a closet. From the ground floor via staircase we find the first floor which is composed on the right side by two living rooms, kitchen, two bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom; on the left side we find a large living room, two bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom. From this floor, go up the stairs to the second floor, currently used as attics: there are three large rooms that can be converted into bedrooms. The elements and the valuable materials are identifiable from the marble, from ample particular times, fine fireplaces and from decorations that echo the structures of the ceiling and not only, present both in the bedrooms and in the cellars. The decorations recall the grotesque style, in fact there are represented stylized flowers and leaves, drapes, strings of pearls: these decorations were made in the mid-1800s by two important Volterra artists. Another artist contributed around 1820 to privately decorate various rooms of the palace. The classic style is evoked at the center of the vaults. The building, with its historical and artistic importance, has great potential as a holiday rental property, thanks to its excellent central location, close to the town’s many restaurants and bars and all other local amenities.
