This prestigious large building in the historic center of Palermo is named “ Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali di Venezia di Palermo “ and represents the first in the category of large multi-story buildings designed by Ernesto Basile in 1912 in the arc of his modernist production.
Constructed at an angle between the strategic Via Roma and Via Cavour, the building immediately assumed the role of an urban signal for the crossing, via Via Roma itself, of the historic city fromCentral Station to the port, assuminga pivotal role in the history of Palermo´s building production and urban dynamics in the late Belle Époque period.
The building provides four floors plus an attic floor and splendid panoramic terrace, as well as two cellar floors.
Being an independent body, the four facades all expose onto the surrounding streets or squares.
From Via Roma, through the entrance door one enters the hallway and from this to the monumental staircase that leads to the second floor.
The layout of the interior provides a central cloister around which large halls and rooms expose along the perimeter of the building.
The building is currently used as a Credit Institution ( D5 ) but lends itself to a concession of use either as a luxury residential, or as a hotel or accommodation facility, being likely to assume the realization of about 40 rooms, spa on the basement floors, and restaurant, bar and lobby on the ground floor.
