The location is close to the historic center of Gallarate (1.5 km), immediately accessible from the “Cardano“ exit of the freeway to Malpensa (a couple of km), 5 km from the airport and 35 km from Milan (in half an hour via the Malpensa freeway and the Lakes Highway).
This is a residential complex with a large garden that stands on the first moraine hill north of Gallarate; it is part of the system of historic villas that arose in the early 1900s for the out-of-town vacation of the great industrial and business families of Gallarate. The main L-shaped building is characterized to the north/east by a block in Gothic-Venetian style added in 1915. The main body was the hermitage of the nearby convent, hence the historical name of “Desert“ given to the house and the place.
The complex also includes a former stables body built in the 1950s, two cottages and a volume used as a tennis locker room. The garden is full of important plants and includes a tennis court.
The articulation of the complex and the garden offers flexibility of design interpretation, in particular it allows a reuse project also with several housing units with independent entrances and private gardens, as well as a common garden equipped with tennis and locker room and with ample space for the construction of a swimming pool and solarium.
