MAESTOSA HISTORIC VILLA for sale in San Giuliano Terme, Pisa, Tuscany.
VILLA DELL´AMMIRAGLIO - SAN GIULIANO TERME - PISA
Built in the second half of the 16th century by Giulio dei Medici, the natural son of Alessandro de´ Medici, himself the natural son of Lorenzo duke d´Urbino and an African slave, has been his residence since 1563 when he was appointed by his uncle Cosimo I´admiral of the Medici fleet at Porto Pisano (Livorno) and of the Order of the Knights of St. Stephen in 1563.
The villa, which is attributed to Buontalenti or Francavilla, has two floors with gabled kneeling windows in pietra serena, in typical Florentine style. It has a rectangular plan, with two turrets at the ends of the facade and a gabled rear facade with a flight of steps.
A large marble Medici coat of arms, with the cross of knights of St. Stephen and the grand ducal crown, is above the main doorway, which leads to the interior, consisting of a large hall with a pietra serena fireplace, also with a Medici coat of arms, from which branch off the other rooms, with wooden or frescoed ceilings, and a double flight of stairs to the upper floor. Two rooms are vaulted, painted by an unknown Pisan painter in the 19th century.
Since the 1970s, the villa has been purchased by a Spezzina family, which undertook a complete restoration after decades of neglect.
The park that surrounds the villa for a good seven thousand square meters possesses numerous centuries-old holm oaks.
