The city of Treviso has very ancient origins: some finds and documents date back to the Bronze Age, but the first certain information on the birth of the city refers to the Roman period. Treviso certainly became an important and strategic center from the Middle Ages until the twelfth century, when the Free Municipality was established.
After a series of conflicts and invasions, the city passed into the hands of the Scaligeri in the period of the municipal restoration.
