Prestigious sixteenth-century building in the historic center of Cremona

A sixteenth-century building located in the historic center of Cremona, few steps from the central square of the city where there are the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Loggia dei Militi and the famous Torrazzo. The historic and prestigious palace of the noble Schinchinelli family was built in 1588 and expanded in 1762 and reflects in its architectural elements the history, art and culture of the city. The noble building with a decorative architectural style, characteristic of the epochal passage between the baroque and the neoclassical, has a sober and elegant façade, monumental entrance door in white stone and rusticated to the windows of the ground floor, while the elevations of the main floor are decorated with windows crowned with triangular gables and alternating curvilinear. Inside the building there is a series of courtyards. The main courtyard is bordered on the opposite side by a serliana portico with lowered arches, while on the south side there is a wall that separates it from the garden. In the corridor, on the right, there is the imposing staircase, impressive and severe, with double ramp, illuminated by the windows, it occupies both floors in full height and leads to the atrium of the first floor, the heart of the reception. The interiors are characterized by gilded and stuccoed wooden doors, ceilings and false ceilings decorated with paintings and stuccoes of considerable effect typical of the palaces revisited between 1700 and 1800. The most important rooms boast exquisite furnishings, bas-reliefs, marble fireplace and grotesque decorations. There are also frescoes from the eighteenth century. Interesting is the Salone degli Arazzi, embellished by the famous artifacts of Brussels with stories from the life of Ezzelino da Romano, as well as decorations, faux pilasters and turnovers of foliage and lacunars on a blue background in the vault. Other rooms follow, such as the dining room, the rooms furnished with four-poster beds among which the “Napoleon“ with furniture in the Empire style, so called because it seems there was Napoleon Bonaparte hospitality during the stop in Cremona on 10th June 1805. Then, the chapel with the altar, the library, the Ballroom and other lounges. The prestigious building presents the testimony of having hosted Francesco I Emperor of Austria and his wife Maria Ludovica d´Este in 1815. Actually, the Palace is divided into various units of real estate to different intended use and some portions of the building are income, including some premises used by an outpatient clinic and those of the former stables occupied by an elegant restaurant.
