Important noble palace in the historic center of Piobbico. Belonging to the Michelini Tocci family since the 1700s, it consists of two wings, the more recent one from the 1800s being partly carved out of mountain rock. The courtyard is then enclosed by what was the servants´ residence. It has three levels: at the lowest of the beautiful cellars, where there are still barrels and wine press for wine production. The second floor was for the owners and the last was inhabited by the farmer. From the top floor there is access to a panoramic garden developed on three terraces: from here one can admire the castle of the Brancaleoni, an important family that ruled the town since the Middle Ages. In all there are more than 20 rooms, some decorated with frescoes. The staircases, made of local pink stone and with decorated wrought-iron railings, are also very beautiful. The palace is in need of radical restoration and is suitable for an elegant accommodation facility. The history of Piobbico is identified with that of thefamilyof Brancaleoni, captains of fortune to whom the territory of Piobbico was entrusted as a fiefdom around the year 1000 and which was led by them for a good five centuries. They initially built an imposing castle on a spur of Mount Nero, then descended to the valley and built their castle, which was transformed over time, from the 12th to the 17th century, to symbolize the family´s established prestige. Today, tourism is based on the history of the place and the natural beauty of the Monte Nerone massif, where dense hiking trails have been implemented and alpine skiing is available in the winter season.
