AZ351- Ancient property complex with abbey, farmhouses and land
Abbey of Montescalari: In an exclusive location, nestled between Chianti Classico and Florence, ancient complex called Abbey of Montescalari.
- History:
Founded in the early Middle Ages, probably around 1040, by monks of the Benedictine order as a home for pilgrims, it represents an important example of religious and historical architecture. It was inhabited until 1930 by the monastic community of Montescalari and later sold at auction to the noble Rosselli Del Turco family, who retained possession until the early 1990s. The property is transformable into a receptive structure.
- Viability:
Access to the building complex is via the Badia Montescalari communal road that is detached from Provincial Road No. 66, Panca Pancuccia. This roadway is gravel-bottomed, 2.5 km long and in a mediocre state of maintenance.
- Description:
The property complex consists of three main bodies and about 101 hectares of land divided as follows:
A) The imposing Abbey of about 5,000 square meters on three levels partly used as accommodation and partly former Benedictine abbey with six rooms used as storage and storage sheds, church, library, kitchen, 15 bedrooms, five bathrooms and open court on the ground floor,
loggia on the inner court, 25 rooms, 13 bathrooms and various hallways/corridors on the first floor. In the basement and basement floor we find kitchen with restaurant room of the accommodation and the stables.
B) Farmhouse of about 860 sq m on two levels partly habitable consisting of 10 rooms with oven on the ground floor and 11 rooms on the first floor.
C) Farmhouse on two levels of about 400 sq m consisting of:
Ground floor: living room, rustic kitchen, two rooms used as storage and oven, with internal staircase leads to additional studio apartment with bathroom.
First floor: independent apartment with living room, kitchen, two bedrooms and bathroom
The property includes well about 80 ml deep with a flow rate of about 80 l / sec. and land of 101 hectares, mainly forest and partly arable land ideal for replanting olive trees and vines.
- Technical characteristics:
The abbey is still perfectly visible. The materials mainly used for its construction are stone, terracotta and wood. Originally also composed of a bell tower, which was destroyed during World War II. One of the bronze bells was made by Andrea del Verrocchio. Inside, paintings dating from the 15th century are still visible and in need of restoration.
The two farmhouses are in need of restoration and are located about 100 meters from the abbey.
Very scenic location, 16 km from the A1 highway exit.
